Newsletter June 2018

Monday 18th June 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It‘s hard to believe but all pupils will finish for their summer holidays next Monday at 3pm.

IMPORTANT: School Reports Envelope: If you have not done so already please send in a stamped addressed envelope tomorrow in order for your child’s report to be sent home. If you do not send in an envelope then we cannot sent home the report. Reports will be posted tomorrow along with booklists.

Mid-Summer Run-Our annual 10km chipped run and 5Km fun run fundraising event took place last Sunday week June 10th and I can safely say it was a huge success. I would like to sincerely thank all those who made the event happen and all those who attended on the day. I would also like to thank those who couldn’t attend but contributed anyway.

The class with the highest percentage of children to take part in the run were 6th class. They will receive their prize of a pizza party this week. To say thank you to all those pupils who registered they will also receive a surprise on Wednesday to say thank you.

The total amount raised on the day was a fantastic €7800. Well done to all involved.

Erasmus + Programme: Castleconnell NS has recently received funding from the EU under their Erasmus+ Program to undertake a school enhancement project.  We are the only school in County Limerick selected to participate this year. The project will involve staff attending training courses and also visiting other EU schools to observe alternative teaching methodologies.  Our partner institutions are from Italy, Sweden and Spain.  The objective of the project is for our pupils and staff to benefit from learning about other European cultures and also to appreciate our shared European values of diversity and inclusion.  2018 has been designated as European Year of Cultural Heritage, a year of events, activities and celebrations all around Europe to encourage interest and involvement in Cultural Heritage.

Graduation- The graduation for 6th class pupils will take place this Wednesday 20st June at 7.30 pm in the school hall. Each year the parents of 5th class pupils support the Parents Association by organising the catering. Thank you to the 5th class parents who have volunteered to help. As our hall is relatively small we have to limit those who attend the graduation to parents and siblings.

Summer Camp 2018:  There are still a limited number of places available. Please send in the form and deposit ASAP. If you have lost the form you can get a replacement from the school reception.

Standardised Testing: We have now completed all standardised testing for this year. If your child was absent during testing we cannot guarantee that we will be able to test your child individually as teachers time is stretched to the limit.

School Start Date 2017/18- School will begin for all pupils on Thursday 30th August 2018. (Junior Infants have separate start dates which parents will be notified of).

To conclude I would like to thank staff, parents and the wider community for all their support throughout the year. It has been a very successful year for the school and we are looking forward to many more successful years ahead. Wishing everyone a safe and happy summer holidays.

Yours Sincerely,

Richie Ryan

Principal
