Dear Parents and Guardians,

The summer term is progressing quickly and we have lots happening between now and the end of the school year. Please take careful note of the important dates at the end of this newsletter. We look forward to your support and understanding as we work together to ensure that the children can have an exciting and fruitful summer term.

Mid-Summer Run: Sunday June 10th: Thank you to all those who have registered already. If you haven’t done so yet you can register by going to www.midsummerrun.ie and following the link. Registration forms are also available at the school office. We need everyone in our school community to support this event in order to get our Astroturf project over the line.  Please put the date in your diary.  If you have been able to secure sponsorship for the run let me know via email: secretary@castleconnellns.ie or by contacting the school by phone on 061377594

School Calendar 2017-2018: Next year’s school calendar has now been finalised and is attached to this newsletter. It is also available on our school website.

Basketball:  Both our boys and girls basketball teams are through to semi-finals. Well done to all involved especially Mrs. Murphy for all the coaching and organising of games.

Hurling:  Training continues on Tuesdays 3-4p. Thank you to Mr. Murray and Gina Hourigan for giving up their time.

Castleconnell Summer Camp:  Our very successful camp will run again this year from 2nd to 6th July. Brochures were distributed with this newsletter today. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Discover Primary Science:  We are delighted that staff and pupils took the time to participate again this year.  We have applied for the award this week and are eagerly anticipating the result.

Limerick City Sports: Pupils from 1st to 6th classes have had trials for the Limerick city sports day which are scheduled for Wednesday 16th of May. Many thanks to Mr. Dillon for organising the trials. Due to re-surfacing of UL track the event will take place in Ennis this year.

Active Schools Week: We are running an active schools week again this year from Monday 11th to Friday 15th June. We have lots of events planned already such as Monster Relay, Sports Day, Nicole Sweeney Dance, Tag Rugby, Fundamental Movement Skills and more. Full details will follow shortly. The cost of the fitness week is €5 per child in order to cover the running costs. We will be asking for this money the week before the active week.

Graded Reading: Teachers are currently undertaking training in their own time after school to ensure we put best practices in place in our classrooms next year.

Testing: As you were informed in the first newsletter of the school year we are testing from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 24th May. Mop up testing of pupils who are absent for reasons other than illness on these days will not be possible due to the amount of valuable teaching time it requires to do so.
